The NVQ Level 2 in Plant Operations is the route to the Blue NPORS/CSCS Competent Operator card. It's assessed in the cab on your live operating site, with just a short sign-off session at our office. No week off work.
Funding may be available for eligible candidates in Wales.

The Questions We Get Asked Most
What's the difference between the Red and Blue card?
The Red NPORS/CSCS Trained Operator card is the starting point while you work towards full qualification. Completing the relevant Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ upgrades it to the Blue NPORS/CSCS Competent Operator card, which shows the plant you're competent to operate. Going from Red to Blue needs both an Experienced Operator Test (or NPORS training) and the NVQ. The CSCS Skilled Worker card is a separate, trade-based card that comes from an occupational NVQ plus the CITB HS&E test.
I've operated machines for years but never got certified. What do I do?
Book an Experienced Operator Test. An assessor checks you can operate safely and to standard, and you come away with a Red NPORS/CSCS Trained Operator card. From there the relevant Level 2 Plant Operations NVQ upgrades you to the Blue NPORS/CSCS Competent Operator card.
Do I have to sit in a classroom for the NVQ?
No week off work. The Level 2 NVQ in Plant Operations is assessed in the cab on a live operating site while you do your normal job. There's a short sign-off session at our office, but the bulk is done on site.
Is funding available?
Funding may be available for eligible candidates in Wales, which can cover the full cost of a Level 2 NVQ. Eligibility criteria apply. Contact us and we'll check whether you qualify.
Do you come to our site?
Yes. As well as our centres in Retford and Cwmbran, we deliver training and testing on-site anywhere in England and Wales. On-site is priced individually to cover travel and time.
